Perinaldo offers a magnificent view to the north over the Ligurian Alps, to the south towards the sea over terraces with secular olive groves, prized vineyards and mimosa and broom trees. A unique, magical place, a picturesque medieval village set on a beautiful ridge, a village that “…could well have been called Poggio delle Stelle, as never elsewhere could I venture to admire such a firmament…” (Gio: Domenico Cassini, Uno scienziato del Seicento, published by the town council of Perinaldo.
Dolceacqua is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Liguria and indeed, in all of Italy. A landscape adored by French painters, who depicted the village in their paintings, making it eternal. A fascinating journey within a nineteenth century painting shows it to still be the same today, all part of a perfect visual composition: the flow of the river between the houses in the village that finishes up on high at Doria Castle.
