Monet made his first visit to the Riviera at the end of 1883 together with Renoir for two weeks. He was so impressed by the charm of the places he visited that on returning to Giverny, heimmediately expressed the desire to go back. He said of Dolceacqua, “… the place is superb, there is a bridge that is a jewel of lightness…”
